Choosing a school brings plenty of questions. Here are answers to the ones families ask most often. If you do not see yours, please contact us—we would be glad to help.

When do students meet on campus?

For the 2026–27 school year, full-time students meet on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are structured at-home learning days.

What is expected of families on at-home learning days?

Parents and caregivers do not need to recreate a full classroom at home. Teachers provide assignments, materials, directions, and feedback. Families provide a consistent schedule, appropriate supervision, and the encouragement students need to complete their work well.

Do you provide childcare on at-home learning days?

No. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are part of the school week, not days off. A parent or another responsible caregiver must be available to supervise assignments and support learning.

Where is the school located?

Through December 2026, classes meet at New Hope Baptist Church, 2024 Redbud Drive in Gastonia. We plan to begin meeting at our new four-acre Kings Mountain campus in January 2027. We will share the new address and transition details with enrolled and prospective families as plans are finalized.

Do families need to be Catholic?

No. St. John the Baptist Academy is an independently governed Christian school rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition. We welcome families who understand and support our mission, including families from a range of Christian traditions. STJBA is not operated by or under the authority of the Diocese of Charlotte.

What is tuition?

Our current tuition schedule is available here.

Is tuition assistance available?

We strongly encourage eligible families to apply for the NC Opportunity Scholarship. A limited number of need-based scholarships may also be available as funding permits.

Can students enroll in individual classes?

Yes, when space is available. Families may review our class schedule and request enrollment in individual courses that fit their needs. Please contact us to confirm availability and pricing.

What is the admissions process?

The process begins with an application, followed by a family interview and student placement assessment. We review the complete picture before making an admission decision. Accepted families then complete registration.

How does STJBA approach technology?

In the elementary grades, we use little to no screen-based technology. Students learn through books, handwriting, discussion, hands-on work, experiments, and direct instruction. In middle and high school, we introduce digital tools deliberately when they serve a clear academic purpose. Older students may need supervised internet access at home for research and occasional assignments.
